The instrumentation available in various laboratories include a 400 MHz JEOL NMR Spectometer with broadband probe, FT-IR and FT-IR microscope, UV-visible spectrophotometers, a fluomicroplate reader, a Isolera™ Prime- Automated Flash Purification, VersaSTAT 4 Potentiostat, an Agilent GC-mass spectrometer, an Agilent Liquid Chromatograph-Thermo LTQ Ion Trap (LC-MS) system, and an atomic absorption spectrometer.
Our main goal is to offer the highest possible level of education in multiple fields of chemistry to our diverse student body. We pursue our main goal by two main avenues: First, by providing high quality programs for students who are interested in a career in chemistry or one that requires a strong chemistry background. We serve this group by offering a Bachelor of Science degree accredited by the American Chemical Society. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is mainly designed for students who plan to enter graduate programs in chemistry or other closely related sciences. Second, we meet the needs of students who are interested in a terminal degree in chemistry in order to find a job or to enter into professional school. We offer two non-accredited majors to meet this goal: Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry. The Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry fulfills the need for those students interested in pursuing medical, dental, pharmacy, and optometry school. Therefore, a major in Chemistry, either as a B.A. or a B.S., prepares students for multiple career paths: graduate work in chemistry or biochemistry, teaching in secondary schools, and entry into professional school, industrial jobs, to mention a few.
