Research Achievement Award Committee Solicits Nominations

Your NRFASPRAA Committee solicits nominations for the highest Award given by the Society. This award is given for outstanding research furthering the study of pharmacognosy, and is presented once a year at the Annual General Meeting, where the awardee is expected to deliver an Award Address on an aspect of his/her research. The award carries with it an honorarium of $5,000 plus expenses to attend the Annual Meeting. Awardees do not have to be members of the Society, and service to the Society is not a consideration in choosing the awardee. As the name of the award implies, research achievement in one of the areas of pharmacognosy is the sole criterion. Nominations should include a full CV of the nominee and usually include three letters seconding the nomination. Nominations should also include a statement from the nominee that he/she is aware of, and consents to, the nomination.

Selection is made by the selection committee a year ahead of the award and must be ratified by the Executive Committee of the Society.  The Selection Committee considers nominations for up to three years after the nomination is received, but one of the conditions for consideration is that the nominee maintains an active research program at the time the selection is sent to the Executive Committee.

Relatively few nominations have been received by the Committee in the last few years , and your consideration of outstanding researchers in our field is requested.

Nominations should be sent to Jim McAlpine at 730 Benson Lane, Green Oaks, Illinois 60048 or electronically to [email protected]. Those for consideration for the 2010 or later Awards should be received by March 31, 2009.
