Research Associate- Analytical Organic Chemist Agricen Sciences is an applied sciences research company leading the development of innovative biochemical and microbial solutions to improve plant health and performance. As part of our ongoing growth, we have an opening for a Scientist in Analytical Research and Development. The successful candidate will be part of a vibrant and multidisplinary R&D team working towards the development of novel bioproducts that enhance plant nutrition and growth as well as agricultural sustainability. The candidate will join a natural products chemical characterization team and should have extensive experience in identifying and quantifying biochemicals and biomolecules. Salary will commensurate with the candidate’s education, skills and experience. The compensation package includes health benefits, as well as a 401K and performance-based bonus opportunities.

Essential duties:

•Support development and implementation of analytical methods and procedures for different natural products chemistry characterization projects.

•Assist in managing and maintaining an analytical laboratory equipped with a Discrete Seal Analyzer, ICP, C/N analyzer, GC/MS and LC/MS that supports multidisciplinary research projects.

Responsibilities

•Conduct hands-on bio-analytical characterization of different technologies to establish key functionalities of new and existing products.

•Apply up to date characterization techniques to identify active biomolecules in complex mixtures.

•Support development of new tools, analytical strategies and protocols to assess new processes and modes of action of different technologies by actively collaborating and communicating with colleagues from other teams and disciplines.

•Document results and procedures in a timely and organized manner.

•Communicate approaches, results and data analysis regularly in lab meetings and technical reports.

Qualifications

•BS or MS (with several years work experience) in Analytical Chemistry and/or Organic Chemistry or related fields.

•Identification and quantification of molecular structures through hands-on experience with relevant equipment such as LC-MS and GC-MS.

•Extraction and purification of compounds with knowledge of chromatography or other separation methods.

•Experience with a wide variety of data processing software, databases and informatics systems.

•General knowledge of natural product chemistry and metabolomics of microbes and plants.

•Demonstrated experience in working in a shared analytical lab that has multiple users.

•Strong organizational and time-management skills are essential, as well as good oral and written communication skills.

•Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques and solve complex analytical problems.

•Ability to contribute in a team effort with engineers, microbiologists, and plant scientists for collaborative development of new product technologies.

•Exemplify team player style that allows for collaboration, mentoring, coaching, learning and team building.

•Experience in standard analytical, biological and wet chemistry laboratory work.

•Desire to learn about other aspects of the business in order to encourage interdisciplinary and focused outcomes for different projects.
