Job Description - The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma, USA has an open postdoctoral position in natural product chemistry. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team on research pertaining to the identification and application of fungal natural products for the treatment of human diseases. The selected individual will have access to a large collection >88,000 fungal isolates for natural product discovery. Responsibilities - 1)Solve problems related to the identification of bioactive molecules from fungi.2)Perform LCMS metabolomics analyses of fungal extracts and oversee dereplication studies of bioactive samples.3)Purify natural products employing a range of chromatography techniques.4)Determine the structures of bioactive compounds using a variety of mass spectrometry tools and spectroscopic methods.5)Carryout the semisynthetic chemical transformation of bioactive metabolites.6)Help manage laboratory operations including supervision of lab safety.7)Lead data-sharing efforts among collaborative labs and communicate with team members concerning project status and directions.8)Assist with the mentorship and training of undergraduate and graduate student researchers in the research lab.9)Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications - 1)Doctoral degree in an appropriate discipline consistent with the position responsibilities and duties assigned.2)Experience in natural product chemical research.3)The ability to interpret MS, as well as NMR and other forms of spectroscopic data is essential.4)Capacity to write and communicate research findings in a scholarly manner.5)Although not required, prior experience in organic synthesis, mycology, “big data” analysis, and the biological testing of natural product samples will be regarded as favorable.
