Position title
Postdoctoral Research Fellow Natural Products Chemistry
Description

The Molecular Targets Program (MTP) of the National Cancer Institute’s Center for Cancer Research (NCI/CCR) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the Natural Products Chemistry Section (NPCS). This position focuses on the isolation and structural elucidation of secondary metabolites from diverse natural sources—including marine organisms, plants, and microbes—using bioassay-guided fractionation.

Responsibilities

Research in the laboratory centers on the discovery and optimization of bioactive natural products with relevance to cancer. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise and a strong publication record in the use of reverse-phase HPLC for natural product purification, as well as proficiency in modern 2D NMR techniques for structure elucidation. Candidates with hands-on experience solving complex structural and stereochemical challenges are especially encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

The position is located at the NCI–Frederick campus in Maryland. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in natural products chemistry or a related discipline from an accredited research institution, earned within the past three years. The fellowship may be renewed annually for up to five years, contingent upon performance and yearly evaluations. U.S. citizenship or a Green Card is not required. The fellowship stipend begins at $67,200 per year and is commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience. Applicants should submit a cover letter that includes a list of natural product structures they have identified, a CV with bibliography, and the contact information of three references to Dr. Lin Du (Lin.Du@nih.gov), with a copy to MTP_PostDoc@nih.gov. Recommendation letters from the listed references will be requested as needed.More information about the Molecular Targets Program is available here:https://ccr.cancer.gov/molecular-targets-program.This position is subject to a background investigation. The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs; underrepresented minority candidates are encouraged to apply.DHHS, NIH, and NCI are Equal Opportunity Employers.
