Postdoctoral Researcher – Natural Products and Synthetic Biology
Description

Job Description - We are looking for a postdoc candidate interested in natural products, genome mining, and synthetic biology to contribute to a collaborative, NIH-funded project. The major goal of this project is to develop and apply a novel bacterial host for natural product discovery. Our laboratory is in the Medical District of the University of Illinois Chicago. Our college is amongst the top10 colleges of pharmacy in the nation and is situated only about two miles from downtown Chicago in the Little Italy neighborhood. Responsibilities - Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:•Designing and conducting research and analyzing results together with your postdoc mentor Dr. Alessandra S. Eustaquio.•Research activities may include bacterial genome analysis, transcriptomic studies, heterologous expression of bacterial gene clusters, gene deletion, and metabolite analyses.•Keeping accurate records of the experiments.•Presenting the results at scientific meetings.•Writing scientific papers.•Participating in lab meetings, journal clubs, and departmental seminars.•Mentoring activities such as working with graduate students.•Collaborative activities such as working with labs within other national and international institutions.

Qualifications - Minimum Qualifications•PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Pharmacognosy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline by the appointment start date.•Publication record in microbial natural products research or related field.Preferred Qualifications•Previous experience with molecular biology, microbiology, and/or genomics and transcriptomics as applied to natural products research.•Previous experience with techniques such as heterologous gene cluster expression, transcriptomics, and bacterial genome mining for natural product discovery.•Experience with metabolite analyses using HPLC and mass spectrometry.
