Job Description - A position in the biosynthesis and semisynthesis of natural products is available starting January of 2025. This position is in the Department of Chemistry at the University of South Florida. This research position will focus on the discovery of biosynthetic genes and pathways from marine animals, especially soft corals. These discoveries will be leveraged for the production of biomedically relevant compounds including terpenoids. Relevant publications include the following: /10.1002/anie.202311406
Responsibilities - A multidisciplinary approach to solve the above problems includes the following: 1) The use of biochemistry and synthetic biology to study problems in biosynthesis 2) Purification and characterization of metabolites from produced by heterologous systems 3) Utilization of these biosynthetic feedstocks in semisynthetic production of target molecules. Further responsibilities include mentored preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals as well as mentoring graduate students.
Qualifications - The applicant should have either one of the following: 1) Previous research experience in biochemistry such as heterologous protein production OR 2) Previous research experience in the synthesis of natural products with a desire to gain new experience in natural products biosynthesis. A PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or related field is required.Applicants should provide the following via email: CV, a letter of intent describing interests and career goals and the names of at least two (2) references.
