Description

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is seeking Director for their Mass Spectrometry facility, which includes ion trap, orbitrap, Q-ToF, and triple quadrupole mass spectrometers and ultraperformance liquid chromatography systems. In addition to upkeep, training, and supervision of instruments, the Manager will work with faculty, postdocs, and students (BA, BS, MS and Ph.D.) on the design and development of experiments and interpretation of results for research and teaching. The minimum requirements for this position are an MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline and 1-2 years mass spectrometry experience. Applications must be submitted through Spartantalent. Responsibilities
  • Train students, faculty, postdocs, and external users on the operation of ultraperformance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry equipment.
  • Coordinate and participate in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ultraperformance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry instrumentation, including vacuum pumps. This is accomplished with the help of a staff scientist devoted to instrumentation repair.
  • Participate in proposal preparation and submission to update instrumentation in the MS facility.
  • Provide research support for grant-funded projects and assist faculty members and students in obtaining data for grant proposals and manuscripts.
  • Secure contract work from external clients from both the private sector and other academic institutions.
  • Negotiation of contracts, billing, and client interfacing both within UNCG and with external users.
  • Provide advice and input on instrumentation use, research methodologies, and method development to faculty, students, postdocs, and external users.
  • Supervise a staff scientist responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation.
  • Provide support in conducting and designing teaching activities for undergraduate courses that involve mass spectrometry.
Qualifications

Applicants are expected to have an M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry or related fields and 1-2 years of related experience or a comparable combination of education and experience.
