Two postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the area of natural product chemistry in Prof. Rebecca Butcher’s group (https://butcher.chem.ufl.edu/) in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Florida. Please send cover letter, CV, and contact information for references to Prof. Rebecca Butcher at butcher@chem.ufl.edu with “application for natural product chemist” in the subject line of the email. The positions include a competitive salary and benefits. Applications will be evaluated until the positions are filled.
Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary research team to identify bioactive small molecules in nematodes (roundworms) using comparative metabolomics and NMR-based structure elucidation, to synthesize the small molecules, and to study their biosynthesis and biological activity.
A Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical biology, or a closely related field is required. The candidate should be eager to use chemical tools to solve biological problems. Expertise in one or more of these areas is desirable: (1) organic synthesis, (2) the use of metabolomics, chemical separations, mass spectrometry, and NMR spectroscopy to identify natural products, and (3) biochemical and biological assays. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to publish results and a willingness to collaborate with others.
