Job Description - This is an opening for an NIH-funded Post Doctoral Fellow position in the Chekan Lab (https://chem.uncg.edu/chekan). Our research is focused on the biosynthesis, discovery, and engineering of RiPP natural products. The ideal Post Doctoral Fellow will have earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemistry, and/or natural products chemistry prior to their start date. They will have expertise in molecular biology, protein expression, enzyme assay development, and or genomics/transcriptomics. Background in protein expression or pathway manipulation in eukaryotic hosts is a particularly desirable skill. A desire to participate in team-oriented research, contribute to student training, and effectively communicate research findings are all essential.The Chekan lab is housed in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (https://chem.uncg.edu/), which features an extremely supportive and collaborative environment with 15 full-time faculty and a diverse student body. Our lab is housed in a 170,000 square foot, $35 million state of the art science building. Responsibilities - 1) Conduct original research in the area of natural product discovery and biosynthesis.2) Design and carry out experiments including protein expression, enzyme activity assays, bioinformatics, and small molecule isolation.3) Prepare and present updates on ongoing research, provide written reports on research progress, participate in group meetings and present seminars to scientific community when asked.4) Contribute to the preparation and submission of reports, proposals, and publications related to research.5) Assist with supervision and support of graduate and undergraduate students with their research projects.6) Provide training to students on proper laboratory protocols, safety procedures, experimental design, and data analysis.
